In a night of glitz and glamour for Asia’s elite in Melbourne, The Asian Executive in collaboration with the Victoria Racing Club played host to 1,000 corporate guests from around Asia and Australia for an evening of reflection of the significance of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

A deferential tone was set by the Co- Founders of The Asian Executive Rick Wong and Grace Lim in dedicating its annual awards, to the late Tan Chin Nam, who died peacefully in Malaysia on 21 October at the age of 92.

Tan Chin Nam was one of the most respected and wealthiest tycoons in Asia and played a significant role in the Australia’s horse racing industry through his partnership with the late Bart Cummings – one of Australia’s greatest horse trainers.

Tan Chin Nam’s horses won four Melbourne Cups under the stewardship of Bart Cummings. These winners were Think Big (1974 and 1975), Saintly (1996) and Viewed (2008). Tan Chin Nam owned at least a share of each one of Bart Cumming’s extraordinary record of twelve Melbourne Cup wins.

The late Bart Cummings was represented on the evening by son, Anthony Cummings who was seated at the official table as a guest of honour of The Asian Executive.

All recipients of this year’s prestigious awards have made a significant contribution towards Asia Australia engagement in a way that Tan Chin Nam did in a previous generation.

The event was graced by the presence of The Hon. Philip Dalidakis MP, Victorian Minister for Trade and Investment, Minister for the Digital Economy and Minister for Small Business, The Rt. Hon.
